Using another ISP's Email account. If you use a web broswer to access your email, you can continue to use it as always. However, if you use POP3/SMTP (Outlook, Eudora, etc.), you may have a problem with your email settings. To reduce the amount of unsolicited email on the 'net, some ISP's do not permit SMTP (Sending email) from an IP Address (your computer's location on the internet) not under their control. The symptom of this is you can receive email but can not send it. In this situation, there are two possibilities. Number one (the best choice), is to change your email client software to use port 587 instead of port 25 for sending email. The other choice (if your ISP doesn't allow SMTP-AUTH over the Submission port) is to change your OUTBOUND email server to your ISP's Outbound (SMTP) server but leave the INBOUND server data (your POP3 account) pointing to mail.kitepilot.net. In Outlook, select Tools, Accounts, select the appropriate account, Properties, Servers, and change the outbound server name to mail.kitepilot.net. On the same dialog, Advanced tab, you find the outbound port setting (either 25 or 587). Record the current server name for times you are outside our coverage (or better yet, set up two accounts - One for here, and one for out of area). The down-side of using the Kitepilot mail address with some other ISP's outbound email server is that very soon (if not already), the new anti-spoofing DNS/Email/SPF records will not accept email sent from the "wrong" system. |
Using a KitePilot.net Email account. As a Member, you are allowed an Email address of your
choosing at no additional charge. This would be: Using your KitePilot.net Email address for the first time. After you have entered an email address in your profile, your email account will be set up with a password of "kitepilot". You will then need to surf to our Email server at http://mail.KitePilot.net and change your password.
Web email access, from here or anywhereUsing the same instructions as above in the "First Time" paragraph, use our Email server's web access to send and receive your Email. Of course, use your new password instead of kitepilot<g>. This will work from any web browser, on any ISP, anywhere! POP3/SMTP access from here.Settings:
POP3/SMTP access from elsewhere.Set up your access just as above. Sending email may not work, even with these settings. Most ISPs allow port 587 but if yours does not, you must change your OUTBOUND email server to the outbound email server of the particular ISP but leave the INBOUND server data (your POP3 account on mail.KitePilot.net) alone. In Outlook, select Tools, Accounts, select the appropriate account, Properties, Servers, and change the outbound server name to the ISP's suggested SMTP server name. Remember to change it back to mail.KitePilot.net when you return to KitePilot coverage (or better yet, set up two accounts - One for here, and one for out of area - Also, if you are using port 587 for Kitepilot.net, you may have to use port 25 for the out-of-area ISP - Hopefully all the ISPs will allow 587 and this will never be necessary). Multiple email accounts (Get one for everyone in the office/family!)With your Kitepilot subscription, you can set up a different email address for everyone in the Office or Family. Just set up an email address (at KitePilot.net) as above and change the password. To set up another, just modify the email address on your profile page to your next needed address, and then log on and set that password. Continue for as many email addresses as you want. Please allow at least 1 minute between creating new accounts (the actual service looks for new addresses every 5 seconds, but let's give it plenty of time - Use that time to reset the password). When done, please put your "normal" email address back in the Profile page. System messages, Equipment Upgrade notices, etc., will be sent to this "Email address of record" (which needn't be a KitePilot.net address at all). Note: Any email address not ending in "@KitePilot.net" is not on our system, and will not be created. It will be remembered as your email address for messages from us. |
